Albert Einstein once said, ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.’ That’s what I woke up with this morning, after a series of dreams last night that were somewhat disturbing. Not an unusual thought for this time of year, I suppose, with the whole ‘new year’s resolutions’ thing in full swing! But I’m not really a New Years resolution kind of girl. So it’s definitely given me pause for thought!
I often hear God in my dreams, sometimes literally, and other times there’s some interpretation and prayer needed. But often for me, I’m asking Him in my dream, ‘What are you trying to tell me?’
In those moments as I’m coming out of the dream, when I’m aware I’m waking up, if I turn my heart and my ear towards Him, I hear Him speak . . . so clearly it’s as though He’s sitting on the edge of my bed, right next to me. I’ve grown to treasure these moments and be fully expectant that I will hear His voice.
James 4:8 says, ‘Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.’ And that is exactly what happens when I position my heart with expectancy and draw close to Him. Recognizing His voice is only ‘part’ of what He wants for us. Unfortunately for many people, this is where they stay, content to draw near, hear His voice, feel His Presence and soak in His love. Not a bad place to be, but there is still more! Revelation without activation is just information!
So, what do I do with what He has told me? Here are some of my steps:
- Write out the dream. Often more revelation comes as we do this . . .
- Write down what He has said.
- Pray and ponder – hold it close to your heart.
- Ask questions! To what area in my life does this relate? Are there any patterns, repetitions, common themes, statements, words, etc. that are emphasized? What specifically impacted my heart?
- Determine whether this is a ‘now’ word, or something for the future.
- Share the dream or word with someone you trust for insight and accountability.
- Partner with Holy Spirit and the Word.
- What is the next one thing I can do to start walking this out? And do it!
For me, the combination of a new year (literally) and God very clearly reminding me that ‘the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result’ – the Word is clear! And I don’t think it’s just for me!
2017 is the year for fresh breakthroughs! It is the year to step out of your comfort zones and do something different! It’s the year to EXPECT results. It’s the year to let go of the old and step into the new, however that looks, and partner with God in what we’re doing! For too long many have done the same thing, expecting different results, and have become disappointed and disillusioned. But this is the year to intentionally position your hearts towards Him, hear His voice and step into what He has for you, no hesitation, no holds barred, partnering with Him and seeing breakthroughs as a result!
2017 is not just the year for revelation and restoration but also the beginnings of Reformation! It is coming! The question is are we willing to step out, partner with Him and be expectant to see the resulting breakthroughs that will bring this forth? What is God speaking to you about right now? What can you partner with Him in? What is the next one thing you can do to step towards your destiny and see His Kingdom expand on the earth?
2017 is the year to do it!!

Excellent Kim
And yes no good doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Great steps of encouragement for all to take as we ponder what God is really saying to us.
Blessings to you honey
